Practical Nursing / Pell Eligible

Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) are a vital part of the health care team. They are employed in a variety of work settings. Their duties include administering medications, taking vital-signs, observing patients, dressing wounds, performing basic diagnostic test and assisting the patient in daily living activities such as bathing, dressing, eating, and exercising. Individuals interested in a career as a licensed practical nurse should have a genuine interest in caring for people and be able to maintain good interpersonal relationships. Admission Requirements: High School diploma or GED, successful completion of the pre-entrance exam, an acceptable physical examination and an acceptable criminal records check and a negative drug screen.
The curriculum includes:
   • Foundations of Nursing Practice
   • Nursing I, II, III
   • Therapeutic Management I, II, III
   • Anatomy & Physiology I, II
   • Laboratory and Clinical Experience

Clinical experiences include acute and long-term care, rehabilitation, and community health sites. Occasional evening and weekend clinicals may be scheduled. Graduates of the program meet the Ohio Board of Nursing requirements for eligibility to take the NCLEX-PN exam. The Practical Nursing Program is accredited by NCA CASI.

Completion will provide the opportunity to receive 20 semester hours of credit in Allied Health at YSU.
