Accreditation

A full time health profession programs are accredited by the NCA CASI.

Entrance Requirements

A criminal background check and drug screen may be required for enrollment in some programs and classes. This is also a requirement for state board licensure. Any adult may register for most classes regardless of previous background. There are no residential requirements. Since classes must be limited, registration must be conducted on a first come first serve basis. Some health-related courses may require a criminal background check and drug screening.

Payment of Fees

All tuition fees are listed in the class schedules. Course fees are to be paid in full at time of registration for part-time classes. Full-time programs are payable by trimester or quarterly. Financial Aid is available for eligible students in full-time (over 600 hrs.) programs only. Full-time programs can be funded through WIA, Pell Grants, Delphi Vouchers, and VA Funding. Group Discounts

Choffin offers a 10% discount for agencies and companies enrolling ten or more staff members into our part-time programs. Customized training is available.

Textbooks/Supplies

Supplies (i.e. safety glasses) are used in some classes. These supplies vary in price and are not included in the fees for the class unless otherwise noted. Each enrolled person is expected to purchase his/her own supplies. Textbooks and/or uniforms are not included in the price of part-time classes. See individual listings for details. It is highly recommended that students enrolled in any medical courses receive a Hepatitis B vaccination and update all immunizations prior to attending class.

Cancelled Classes

Choffin Career & Technical Center reserves the right to cancel, discontinue, postpone, or combine classes. Some classes require a minimum enrollment and may be cancelled due to insufficient enrollments. For this reason, please register early to reserve a place in the class(es) of your choice. Every effort will be made to notify the registrants that a class has been filled or cancelled. Registrants may choose alternate classes or receive full refunds.

Withdrawals and Refunds

Choffin Career & Technical Center will issue refunds for part-time classes only under the following circumstances:

  • Full refund if classes are cancelled by Choffin Career & Technical Center
  • Full refund minus a $30.00 administrative fee if withdrawing five (5) business days prior to the first day of class.
  • NO REFUNDS will be made after this time.

Choffin Career & Technical Center will issue refunds for full-time courses upon written notification only under the following circumstances:

  • Full refund on or before the first day of school minus a $300.00 placement fee.
  • Fifty percent (50%) refund during the first week of the program.
  • Twenty-five percent (25%) refund during the second week of the program.
  • NO REFUNDS will be made after the third week of the trimester/quarter of the program.
  • All other refunds will be based on the Federal Refund Policy.

Certificate of Completion

Part-Time Certification - A Certificate of Completion will be awarded to each student who has satisfactorily (80% or higher) completed the required course work and has attended ninety percent (90%) of the scheduled classes. If the course is less than 20 hours in length, a required 100% attendance is mandatory in order to receive a certificate of completion.

Full-Time Certification - A Certificate of Completion will be awarded to each student who completes his/her program with a C average or better and with ninety percent (90%) attendance throughout the entire program.

SENIOR CITIZENS

Any Senior Citizens age sixty-five or older may register for any part-time class and receive a 10% discount on tuition.

School Closing

If a class is cancelled due to an emergency, weather conditions, or a teacher absence, a makeup class may be scheduled, if needed, at the discretion of Choffin Career & Technical Center. All adult classes are cancelled if Youngstown City Schools are closed.
