Admission Requirements: High School diploma or GED, pre-entrance exam, manual dexterity and interview. The primary functions of a surgical technologist are to assist the surgeon and operating team, maintain the sterile field, and pass instruments. This comprehensive program includes course work in:
• Anatomy & Physiology
• Microbiology
• Pharmacology
• Orientation to Surgical Technology
• Preparation for Surgery
• Surgical Procedures
• Communication and Behavioral Sciences
• Technological Sciences
• Anesthesia
• Fundamentals of Surgery
Upon completion graduates are eligible to sit for the national certification exam, and are provided the opportunity to receive 20 Semester hours of credit in Allied Health at YSU.
